Acai Berry Pills – Know What You Are Buying

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Acai berry pills are a fast and convenient way of the getting the nutrients of the acai berry. Harvesting and processing methods, though, are crucial to getting the full nutritional benefit of the berries. Always check the labels of the products you are considering so that you know exactly what you are buying. Look for berries that have been freeze dried. Heat destroys many of the nutrients in fruits and vegetables and heat is often the method of processing used. Freeze drying, though, does not use heat so the nutrients are retained. Also look for products that use the acai berry in its entirety as the nutrients are found in the whole berry. Acai berry extracts do not use the whole fruit but rather only parts of the fruit so these should be avoided. One good way of ensuring a high quality product is to examine the ORAC value. The higher the ORAC value is the more carefully the fruit was harvested and processed. Read the labels and know what you are buying to get the most from your acai berry pills.

The Various Daily Iron Requirements

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Everyone should eat a balanced diet. This promotes good health, physical as well as mental. Iron is a very important aspect of a balance diet. There are a number of foods on the iron rich foods list which should be included in a healthy diet. But what is the recommended daily intake of iron. It differs, depending on age and gender. Children who are 6 months old or younger should have 10 milligrams of iron a day. Infants and toddlers should consume roughly 15 milligrams of iron a day. Women between the ages of 11 and 50 require 18 milligrams a day. Women over the age of 50 require less, roughly 10 milligrams a day. Pregnant women require more iron than non pregnant women. They need between 30 and 60 milligrams a day. However, pregnant women are urged not to eat liver as it is high in Vitamin A and large amounts of the vitamin can harm the baby. Men aged 10 to 18 require 18 milligrams. Over the age of 19, they only require 10 milligrams. Vitamin C will help to increase iron absorption.

My Daughter Says She’s a Vegetarian

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

Coming from a meat and potatoes background, I was taken aback by my daughter’s recent declaration that she is now a vegetarian…at least she thinks she is.

At only 13 years of age, she is obviously still living at home amongst us carnivores. This of course does not stop her from turning up her nose when we eat our pork chops or pot roast. I found it kind of hard at first living with the idea of her following a vegetarian meal plan but I soon found that it’s not that hard. I did a lot of research on the computer and found lots of helpful hints as to what to prepare and how to prepare it so that I could be sure that she got all the vitamins and nutrients that she needs to grow healthy and strong.

Now, my girl is not thin but she’s not over weight either. She’s very active with her school soccer and her glee club, so it was really important for me to make sure she ate well.

After the initial shock wore off, we as a family have adapted to her food preferences…just don’t ask me to cook tofu!

Speeding Up Metabolism? Well I Am Trying!

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Thinking of speeding up metabolism? I am honestly trying! I have been trying for the last three months but I am finding it really difficult to stick to my gym schedule. I work in the theatre and I am often working late and night so it is difficult to say whether I will be able to go or not. So I tend to just go to the gym when I feel like it – which is never. I am only doing this at the doctors suggestion because apparently I am dangerously overweight. It is difficult for me because I love my food and the diet list they gave us is difficult to follow. I will try my hardest to follow it but I just end up ordering a take away. I ma have to get a personal trainer to live in with me and hide the take away menus from me.

How to Make the Butternut Squash and Cranberry Salad

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

There are some really great salads you can make while on the paleo diet, which includes a butternut squash and cranberry salad. This is a fairly simple recipe that doesn’t take a lot of time or effort to make it. The ingredients you will need are: 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon curry powder, 2 cloves sliced garlic, 1/2 diced onion, dried cranberries, 1 cup of diced butternut squash and 1/2 can of coconut milk. Once you have gathered all the ingredients, you will fry the onion and garlic in the coconut milk for a minute or two and then add in the squash. From here cook for another few minutes and then add in the cranberries. To finish the recipe add in the spices and keep cooking until everything is well combined and the squash is tender. Not only is this recipe inexpensive it can keep you full for a long time.

This Really Works!

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

I love Shakeology. I was so close to dismissing this one. Thankfully, I read a couple of really interesting Shakeology reviews. I have issues with my blood sugar. One day, I was making some researches when I click a link for this by mistake. Anyway, while I was at the site, I took some time to read REVIEWS and I bought some packs of this shake.

I actually did not know what to expect. All I know is that it may or may not work. I waited for a week then have my sugar analyzed—well it did stabilize and I actually felt a lot better than when I started. It’s really cool. This is the only meal replacement that I trust and I am now a convert. This really works. I am very thankful. Get your nutrients with Shakeology. It’s a great and fun way to eat. Plenty of delicious recipes.

Healthy Smoothies: Best Supplement to Your Diet

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Only recently, people began to pay enough attention to their health. Many people love doing sports to keep in shape, like jogging or swimming. Did you know that a couple of healthy smoothies a day might be the best supplement to their bodies?

It´s pointless going running and having a food full of fats and sweeteners when getting home, but that´s a typical behavior for people nowadays. You could try to drink a healthy smoothie, instead. They won´t add extra sugar to your diet, and you´ll avoid some dirty foods.

Anyway, without a doubt, the greatest advantage of drinking a smoothie, is the amount of nutrients you´ll have. And after some hard exercise, it´s something that you´ll be thankful. Give it a try, and I am pretty sure that you´ll never want to drink something different any more. You´ll love your «smoothie time» and you´ll never regret about changing to such a healthy beverage.

The H.E.M. Treatment for Ankle Sprain and Injury

Friday, January 14th, 2011

H.E.M. is an ankle rehab system created by well-known fitness expert Scott Malin. This system was designed to make the treatment of ankle injury or sprain easy and fast. With this system, you don’t need any equipment. And unlike the more popular R.I.C.E. or rest, ice compression, and elevation treatment, you can heal in days, not weeks, if you use H.E.M.!

The H.E.M. Ankle Rehab Treatment is based on simple exercises that anybody can follow, regardless of age and fitness level. It helps the body heal just how it needs and wants to heal. It focuses on repairing the damage caused by the injury, strengthening the muscles around the ankle joint, and increasing the flexibility of the ankle. Through this system, you will learn how to correctly stretch the ligaments so that your body triggers the healing process.

With H.E.M., you can walk normally again without any pain in 3 to 7 days. You can go back to sports and do other vigorous physical tasks again within 10 days. It also helps reduce the risk of future injury, so you don’t need to worry about being physically-active and hurting your ankles again.

Where to Store Your Hand Juicer

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

Using a hand juicer is wonderful because you can get freshly squeezed juice whenever you would like it. However, because of the size, they can be a nightmare to store. Most hand juicers fit into one of two categories when it comes to size. They are either bulky or extremely tall. Either way, they can be very hard to store in your kitchen.

If you have a bulky hand juicer, you have several options. You could either leave it on your counter in the same way that you would leave a microwave on your counter, or you could reserve some cabinet space for it. If you leave it in your cabinets, it will stay out of the way until you’re ready to use it. But it will take up valuable space if you have small cabinets.

If you have a very tall juicer you may have some trouble finding counter space. My personal problem is that I have a hand juicer with a lever that sticks up very high. My solution was to push the lever into its down position and lock it there by wrapping a rubber band around it. Doing this allowed me to leave it on the counter underneath my cabinets.

The Best Juicer is a Good Juicer

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

At this time of year, many of us are looking to purchase the best juicer that we can. Sometimes it is a question of money, some of these appliances are actually quite expensive. While other times it is more to do with not knowing which style would suit us best. Of course, if you cannot afford to spend more than a certain amount of money, then there are going to be some juicers that you cannot consider.

However, the other issue is simply about educating yourself so that you can choose the most appropriate style for your household. This means that you have to do a bit of thinking. How do you want to use a juicer?

If you have lots of time to make a juice then there is no need to rush. For those of you who need to make juices quickly on the other hand, a centrifugal juicer makes the best choice. These are the fastest juicers.

A Different Kind of Blend

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

I really can’t understand why there is a need to have a Blendtec vs Vitamix faceoff because for me, I already know which one is the better kitchen appliance. Although most people would think that I am biased towards Blendtec because I own one, I still think that there is nothing that Vitamix or any blender for that matter can offer me to change my mind.

For me, it’s more because of the level of satisfaction that I have gotten and still have with my blender that makes me believe in it. For years, Blendtec has given me the ability to prepare my food in record time and what really makes me believe in it is its durability. I don’t think that there is anything out there as strong as my blender and that is what sets it apart from the others. There may be some who can come close to what Blendtec can do but nothing can blend like it does.

Healing Your Body Through Juicing

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

Even though numerous individuals have been exposed to fresh squeezed juice not many know that it is possible to cure diseases with it as well. Certain combinations of fruits or vegetables work wonders on the human body and there are many books with recipes which can explain those in more detail. It is important to own a pretty good juicer as in order to use it in this manner it will have to be implemented into the daily schedule. If you are having trouble with the cutting or clean up then you will never force yourself to use it every single day. I have gone through numerous juicers and can vouch for that. In the beginning the excitement takes over but after a while you will get tired of the amount of work and stop.

Since I have indigestion problems red delicious apples along with cilantro and red cabbage help me tremendously. I own a Jack Lalane Juicer and a Samson and the Lalane is awesome since I do not have to precut almost anything. It has a wide mouth and is very easy to clean. This way I have been able to get off of prescription drugs and still get the help I need.
